Tanekaha/Celery Pine(Phyllocladus trichomanoides) is a member of the Podocarp family found throughout the North Island to the north of the South Island of New Zealand. It is unusual in that instead of depending on leaves for photosynthesis, it uses leaf like structures calleed phylloclades. Growing up to 20m tall, Tanekaha has strong, knot free timber that was sought after by both Māori and early European settlers alike.
