The Archer track is an easy walking track in the Marlborough Sounds between Penzance Bay in Tennyson Inlet and Elaine Bay. The track follows an old stock route that was used prior to Tennyson Inlet gaining road access in the 1960s. The track is named after the Archer family who have maintained a permanent presence in the area since the 1880s. The track is 9km long from Penzance Bay to Elaine Bay, with an estimated walking time of three hours. From the mid point of the track at Deep Bay, good views can be had of several small islands in Tennyson inlet. Along most of its length, the track passes through dense native forest with a mix of beech and podocarp species.
