Tirohanga Track is a short, but steep track in Picton that leads to a hilltop lookout point offering excellent views of Picton and Waikawa. There are two points of entry to the track, one from Garden TerraceĀ and the other from Newgate Street. From Garden Terrace, there are other walkways up Essons Valley to two dams that supply water to Picton, so it is easy to complete these tracks and the Tirohanga Track in a single outing.

From the start of the track to the summit lookout is about 1.2km, climbing through regenerating native forest. The estimated walking time to the summit is 45 minutes, however for those with a good level of fitness, this can easily be halved.

A number of traps have been set along the track by Picton Dawn Chorus, an incorporated society formed by a number of Picton residents, with the aim of controlling predators, so that native bird life can flourish.
