Governors Bay is a small bay that is a DOC reserve with a sandy beach, accessible from Queen Charlotte Drive. A steep track descends from the road through native forest to a secluded beach with coarse, golden sand. At high tide, the beach strip is very narrow, however at other times the beach is adequate for a picnic and sunbathing. The eastern and western ends of the bay have a steep, rocky shoreline.

Toilets are provided, but no camping is permitted.
