Red Billed Gull

Red billed gulls are a common, widely distributed native sea bird found throughout the Marlborough region. Their natural habitat is coastal areas. They are found along the Kaikōura coast, at the Wairau Lagoons and river mouths among other places.

Red billed gulls have adapted to humans, and are often found in urban areas scavenging. Large numbers can frequently be found at Pollard Park competing with ducks for food scraps.

Although common, numbers of red billed gulls are in decline.

This example was observed at Marfells Beach.
