19th (June 1842) I addressed 70 or 80 natives on the beach this morning from Heb. 2.9. In the afternoon at the Surveyor's mess room, a goodly company got together; also the children of the Sunday school to whom I preached on the nature, prevalency & uses of the priesthood of Christ. In the evening as many as could crowded together in a small dwelling house were spoke to in the Gospel Feast. Isiah 25.6-10.

23 (June 1842) There is a Society here by name the "United Christians" who have shown their colours on the Lord's side, & have united to help each other in the way to heaven. Some of them are Independents, some Baptists some primitive Methodists & one or two Wesley's. As far as I thought them right & could consistently, I have helped them, but I am sorry to see some of them who regard me with a jealous eye.

26th (June 1842) Laboured as last Sabbath, once among the natives who were assembled on the beach & twice among the Europeans in the Surveyor's Mess Room & in a private house found. Found it good to be employed preaching the Gospel.

29th (June 1842) Left Nelson last evening in a canoe for home. Arrived here (RANGITOTO, D'URVILLE IS.) this evening. As there are a considerable number of candidates for Baptism here I purpose staying over Sunday that I may administer to them that ordinance after examining how far they are prepared for it.

2nd (July 1842) I have been busy the last two or three days examining & exhorting the people who desire admission into Christ visible le Church. They are well aquainted with the catechism. I am on the whole well pleased with them, tho they suffer from want of pastoral oversight.

4th (July 1842) Yesterday was a good day. Besides the regular services, I had the pleasure of baptizing about forty persons "in the name of the Father, Son & Holy Ghost". May the Lord Jesus" baptize them with the Holy Ghost & with fire"! This morning we renew our journey homewards. I am anxious about home for I have now been 8 weeks away &things soon get wrong on a Mission station when the Missionary is away.
