10 (January 1842) It is feared our Chairman will have to go to MAUGUNGU for the brethren there have been disagreeing & the matter must be looked into by a disinterested party. This will seriously detains us. Mr. WHITELEY wishes me to accompany him, which I think of doing, as it will not make my stay from home any longer.

16 (*January 1842) This was an interesting Sabbath. Mr. SKEVINGTON preached a good sermon from " And ye shall seek me & find me, when ye shall search for me."

18 (January 1842) In the harbour waiting for a wind to take us to MAUGUNGU. Each day becomes a month to me, as poor dear Sarah will be lonely.

23 (January 1842) At sea & fine weather. Mr. W. preached a very excellent sermon from Mark 8.36. Great attention was paid. Service again in the evening.

26 (January 1842) Beat into the HOKIANGA over the bar in fine style with a N.E. breeze - had not more than four fathoms all the way in.

27 (January 1842) Found all the Missionaries & families at MAUGUNGU well - expect to commence business immediately.

30th (January 1842) I have had hard work today, but it is in a god cause. Preached in the forenoon to a large company of natives from ROM 8.9 - In the afternoon to about thirty Europeans from 1 John 4.9. in the evening

20 (February 1842). Today I felt considerable freedom in calling the attention of the natives to Rom .8.9. Great attention is paid. Mr. BUDDLE preached a very good sermon to us in English after which we commemorated the dying love our Savior. It was a blessed day.

24 (February 1842). Our district meeting is over. Unity has prevailed among us & we have parted resolved to be more faithful & holy; Lord help us to keep our resolutions! We are now waiting for a fair wind to proceed homewards. Mr. BUTTLE is with us on his way to the colony having requested to proceed further to look out for a Ceepmate. I am beginning to feel anxious about my dear wife whom I left all alone more than eight weeks since - Father befriend her!
