Fluttering Shearwater are a small migratory seabird native to New Zealand, also migrating to Australia and the Solomon Islands, although breeding occurs only in New Zealand. The birds are brown above with a white underside, and frequently travel in large flocks. They breed on offshore predator free islands, in shallow burrows, with large colonies in the Marlborough Sounds on Long Island and Trio Islands. They are particularly common around the Marlborough Sounds and Cook Strait region.

Food consists of small fish and crustaceans.

This example was observed in Tory Channel.
