Whites Bay Track begins at Rarangi Beach and climbs steeply through indigenous coastal forest before following the Port Underwood road for a short distance, then descending through an area of pine forest, then native vegetation, to Whites Bay, a popular swimming beach and camping area.

Depending on fitness, the track can be completed in one direction between 30-50 minutes. The Department of Conservation given an offical time of one hour one way, however most people will be able to complete the track in under an hour.

Where the track follows the road, good views of Cloudy Bay and the Wairau Plain are possible.
