Situated on 2.5 hectares of land in Severne Street formerly owned by Lloyd and  Joy Shepard in Springlands, the land was donated to the The Queen Elizabeth II National Trust for the benefit of the public by Joy with the request that the land be known as Shep's Park on her death. Lloyd, a World War II veteran died in 1992, and Joy in 2005 aged 89, but had no children. The ashes of Joy and Lloyd are buried in the park.

The park has a number of heritage fruit trees and has been planted with native trees and shrubs and has a Children's playground and car parking planned as part of future development.
