Pink Broom
Pink broom in full flower in a garden.

syn. Notospartium carmichaeliae

The pink broom is one of Marlborough's most dramatic flowering plants. Growing to a small tree 3 - 4 metres high with drooping cylindrical branchlets it becomes covered in bright pink flower sprays along stems in Spring. Originally it was thought to be endangered but subsequent research has found it to be fairly widespread on bluffs and steep places throughout the eastern Marlborough river systems.

Although not very commonly cultivated in gardens yet, the pink broom has great potential. It prefers well drained soil in full sun and will tolerate some degree of frost and drought.
