Kanono (Coprosma grandifolia) is the largest leaved species of Coprosma, a genus of shrubs and small trees endemic to New Zealand. Capable of tolerating shade, kanono may be found as an understorey tree in mature forests, also on forest margins and in regenerating forest.
This example was observed at Karaka Point at the northern entrance to Waikawa Bay.
