Helichrysum parvifolium is a small bushy shrub under a metre high, endemic to New Zealand found in exposed mountainous areas of the high country in the north of the South Island, particularly in Marlborough and Nelson, but also parts of Canterbury. Leaves are small and scale like, overlapping along the stems. Flowers are small, yellow, at the tips of stems. Seeds are dispersed by the wind.
The genus Helichrysum is part of the Asteraceae or daisy family, with a number of endemic species, many of them found in alpine areas.
This example was observed on the Ned in the Wither Hills Ecological District.
