Thelymitra pauciflora is a sun orchid found throughout New Zealand and Australia in open habitats on clay soils. Plants grow from a tuber with a single leaf with a purplish colour, sometimes in clumps of a large number of plants. Each plant produces a flower stem with multiple flowers, although only 2-3 flowers on a given stem will typically be open at any time. Flowering in Marlborough tends to be from mid to late October through to early to mid November.
This example was observed on the Wither Hills within the QE II Covenant area.
