Kiokio (Blechnum novae-zelandiae)

Kiokio  (Blechnum novae-zelandiae) is one of the commonest and widely distributed of New Zealand's ferns. It is frequently found on stream banks and damp areas as is the case with this example photographed on the bank of the Taylor River near Taylor Pass.

This fern can be easily cultivated, however due to its agressive growth, it can potentially become weedy in gardens.
