Scopula rubraria (Plantain Moth) is a small moth native to New Zealand, Australia, and New Caledonia, where the larvae feed on a variety of plant species. Although native to New Zealand, plantain moths are considered a pest species on pastures that include plantain, as the larvae can rapidly destroy a plantain crop. Prior to widespread planting of plantain, little was known about the moths and they were not classified as a significant pest species. The species was first described in 1843. Plantain moths have a wingspan of about 2cm, and can be distinguished by their zigzag markings and distinct spots.

This example was observed in the Wither Hills Farm Park.
