Copper butterfly (Lycaena salustius)

The copper butterfly (Lycaena salustius) is a small butterfly endemic to New Zealand, and found throughout the country. The butterflies can be found wherever the host plant for their larvae, Pōhuehue (Muehlenbeckia spp.), can be found. The adults have a wingspan of up to about 3cm, and are active from spring to autumn.
This example was observed in the Wither Hills Farm Park.
