Banded Dotterels tūturiwhatu (Charadrius bicinctus ssp. bicinctus) are a medium sized shore bird that nests on beaches and braided riverbeds throughout New Zealand. The birds are endemic to New Zealand, and are classified as vulnerable, as a result of predation and disturbance of their nesting sites.
In Marlborough, they can be found nesting along the east coast between Marfells Beach to Cape Campbell.
This example was observed on Marfells Beach.
