Spring Creek is a small community at a strategic intersection of State Highway One and State Highway 62 (Rapaura Road) which provides a direct route to Nelson without needing to pass through Blenheim.

The town has a major freight depot for Kiwirail, the New Zealand national rail operator, as well as a winery, a modern Four Square Supermarket, a pub, a primary school, an Anglican church, and a backpackers among other things.

The eastern extent of the township is defined by the Wairau River, and a single lane concrete bridge (known as the Ferry Bridge for historical reasons) connects Spring Creek with the northeastern most part of the Wairau Plain and Rarangi coastal settlement.
