Taylor Pass Road is one of three roads that provide routes south from Blenheim over passes into the Awatere Valley. The other two are State Highway One over Dashwood and Weld Pass, and Redwood Pass Road. Taylor Pass Road has three small bridges along its length, however due to its status as a secondary road, with low volumes of traffic, all three bridges are single lane.

For much of its length, the Taylor Pass Road follows the course of the Taylor River, and crosses the river once via a bridge, and twice via fords. There is a bridge over the Branch River, a tributary of the Taylor (Not to be confused with the much larger Branch River in western Marlborough). Finally, on the Awatere side of the pass, there is a bridge over the aptly named Bridge Gully.
