Link Pathway

The Link Pathway is a walking and cycling track of around 40km that will eventually link Picton and Havelock. The track follows an old bridle trail well over a century and a half old.

In 2005 a committee was established to co-ordinate community work on the track. Two of the most prominent initial supporters of the project were former Mahikipawa Arm Resident, Pete Brady, and Marlborough artist Rick Edmonds of Moenui Bay, although many other residents from Linkwater and settlements along the route of the track were also involved.

In 2009, the Link Pathway project received the supreme award at the Trustpower Community Awards. Other grants from the Marlborough District Council, Te Arawaroa Trust and support from Marlborough businesses have helped contribute to development of the track.
Outward Bound has provided volunteers to assist with labour.
In December 2014 The Canterbury Community Trust made a grant of $73,000 over twelve months to support the project.

As of late 2014 several kilometres of track have been completed, and it is possible to walk from Anakiwa to Havelock in and estimated 4-5 hours, although some sections require walking along the road. The full track is not expected to be complete until 2020 to coincide with the 250th anniversary of Captain James Cook's arrival in New Zealand.
